Who We Are

Haiti On The Rise is committed to supporting the Haitian people in their long-term reconstruction efforts. Through ongoing sustainable projects, we will help rekindle hope, strengthen families, and rebuild strong and vibrant communities impacted by recent natural catastrophes.

Haiti on The Rise is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our present board includes members who have lived and worked in Haiti for many years. Please visit our Leadership page.

Our Mission

Haiti On The Rise seeks funds for the reconstruction and development of structures and programs that benefit those affected by the 2010 Earthquake, 2016’s Hurricane Matthew, and the recent catastrophic duo of the August 14th, 2021 Earthquake followed two days later by Tropical Storm Grace. We identify community needs, select projects that meet those needs, and plan for and fund our selections. Projects are focused on reconstruction and development in key sectors such as Housing, Education, Healthcare, and Pastoral Endeavors.

Our Story

Jacqueline Oriscar Lee (Jackie), a California resident who is from Haiti, has visited her homeland on several occasions after the 2010 Earthquake. During her 2014 and 2015 visits, she met with a diverse group of people including the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Archbishop Guy Poulard. From their conversations, Jackie learned about the continuing impact on the population from the 2010 Earthquake, and how the recovery effort had been stalled. It was heartbreaking to hear.

Jackie witnessed the despair in many localities stemming from the deplorable living conditions, such as people living in tents, makeshift shelters, and storage containers. Among many that she met with, Jackie noted their feelings of hopelessness. As she listened to their stories of plight, she realized that she needed to do something that would help bring back the community that used to nurture her. When Jackie returned home to California she reached out to her network to form Haiti On the Rise, which works to improve the living conditions in Haiti.
